Rohini Nakshatra

O pretty, you dont weep ,for this world doesnt bear
doesnt care for those tears, those tears belong to me

hold my hand, hand in hand cross the river, across the shore
where and you and me shall take a walk, explore and implore

drop by drop I shall fall like the sinful rain above
decorating your body with this foliage of love

keep those anklets intact, and let them attract
me to enact ,this special act

watch me watch you wink by wink ,for these boyish pranks I bring
move those lips of yours and sing

a song so divine of a peacock-crowned prince

O pretty, you dont sleep, cos when the morning is too near
your thoughts would go unclear, dried up with needless fear

hold my hand, hand in hand cross the river, across the shore
with this Love God,'Mudhu Krishna' you adore.

Hahahaahaha, well said shuchi.

All the same Loll, very well written. But I'm not sure if I'm missing something here .... have you already found your madam "pretty" or as Shuchi put it, are you still in the never ending quest to find one?

you sometimes find someone to lose her
and you lose someone to find another

at the end the universe will unfold itself

Well there is nothing like already found her..... cos you can lose her anytime.
and there is also nothing like a never ending quest to find her....

This poem is about that moment where both your questions become completely invalid.

and I am living that moment.

I have the unfortunate privilidge of knowing the poet in his capacity as more than the poet, and yes the poet is this chaotic and muddled in his real life too. for those who had a doubt if these feelings expressed could be genuine the answer in a word is YES.

Now as for the poem, its one of those which demand that you leave the sanity behind and enter the dangerous dark caverns of the poet's evidently disturbed psyche.. the journey will not be a comfortable one but you'll be hapier you went for the ride.. the sinful rain and the anklets and the tears bring out haunting imagiries, with the divine peacock-crowned prince, your Lord Krishna as your only saviour - the whole idea of finding one source of comfort and peace in a soulmate away from the morass of life.. hits you hard and when you least expect it like a subtly spiked cocktail.. and just like a good cocktail, leaves you wanting for more..

the poet's skills in poetry could be improved, but i guess the poet's heart is in the right place.. no brownie poins though (love the stuff way to much to waste)

To set the reccord straight. I din really want to comment cos I think u've heard it before.
but I guess u really want the blow:

basically, this poem appears as if its an ode to a beautiful women from the man who loves her. or it can be read as if a man is dreaming and imagining abt a imaginery women whom he would like to love but hasn't met.
In actual fact, it is a nassistic poem abt the poet. abt how the women he imagines he loves actually loves and adores him back. it is a poem about the women adoring the poet. this is evidenced by the fact that the poem is more descriptive abt the man or the poet more than the women. nothing is revealed abt the lady. but everything is hinted abt the men. and how the poet sees the man (aka himself) as Krishna. the peacock references and all.

so there.

The peacock crowned prince frolics with Radha of unmatched beauty,
Two bodies rapt in passion, one the color of thundering clouds, the other of besieged snow-clad mountains,
From the bank across, watching this divine dance is a jilted Gopika (read Gail),
Murmuring in bitter jealousy, and riling at fate - "Why not with me?"

Rile not at me, and don’t wish for things that can't be,
Radha is the moon, and you are just a firefly,
Just look into placid waters, the truth is there for you to see.

alas. an opinion is an opinion. whether harsh or flattering.
If I'm thus opinioned (by Iyer) to be jealous just becos he feels I have an erroneous opinion. then, I am so sorry, also I will ask Ezra Pound, Harold Bloom all my literature professors to re- teach me the entire principals of literary criticism.

Oh NO! I better write in to my examiners, scarly they think I am jealous of wordworth, blake, coleridge, sylvia plath and all the poets I wrote abt in my papers.
How? I am so scared now.

Rohini Nakshatra (my birth star and birth star of Lord Krishna) is very close to my heart because it reflects a lot of who I am and who I was and with whom I was or still am.
and it is even more interesting to see each of your interpretations because it in its own way reflects a lot of who you think I am and I was.
Flattering or not flattering ,
your responses sure have been.
and as narcissist I might sound, I love the lime light.and will not allow anyone take it away :)So feel free to speak your heart out.

Meantime, lets also Hail the Love-God himself.

Hare Krishna!

To set the record straight, again.
Your posting was less of literary criticism, and more of a personal blow. Yes, you need to stop your rote learning and revisit Ezra Pound, Harold Bloom and all your literature professors, rewrite your essays on wordworth, blake, coleridge, sylvia plath and all the other poets...this time not for grades...ok? and there is nothing to be scared of, coz what is, is. Look in the placid waters, as Fate sez!

Gail has made her point and moved on guys....so should you...

The more you justify...the more unsure you sound of your own convictions..

Personally I feel it wasn't a personal blow...it sounded so coz she understood the essence of what ro was tryin to say...and the interpretation-was hers..and hers alone....and she has full rights to it..

Flattery goes flat.. if false..

Shuchi said...

Iyer,

since the fiery debate is on..why don't you give us your interpretation of the poem..?

you have a right to one too..

and i'm sure we all would like to hear it:)

shuchi,

erm...a while ago, someone left an unpleasant msg in ur blog, and when i put her off, u said "Thanks!"

same rules should apply here...

I would if the debate was about your post..it's Ro we're talking about here and he seems to be enjoying the attn..;)

Was an honest request..not a threat..nopes not even venturing there....

..just thought anyone who has such a strong opposition [and may I add..opposing well!]..would also have a supporting argument to help his cause? No?..

I could be wrong..

3 potties said...

a full fleged war of words eh...over a poem. I am sure everybody has their opinion; whether bad or good. Whatever opinions, arguments or comments one may have, just go ahead and say it. It is not necessary to take the support of one's qualifications. Just because someone may have read wordsworth, ezra, blake etc etc and written exams on it, doesnt make that person more qualifed to comment;atleast when it comes to something with an creative license.

Oh one last word - guys move on, enough has been said and given.

I enjoy the criticism as much as the attention.
Especially when it comes from people who are poetically inclined or atleast claim to be so :)

I have enjoyed Gail's attempt to challenge the essence of my poem and its intentions as much as Iyer's response to ridicule it.
And I am sure they did too.
Cos knowing both of them, it was'nt mere war of words but exchange of ideas and theologies.
There is no harm in one standing his/her ground.

This is art..... and there is no moving on here or enough said/done.

But yes, it will only help me move on to post something better and captivating.

which I shall.

Cheers
